At Davy, we have a highly experienced probate services team dedicated to providing Solicitors and Executors with professional support through formal valuation and administration of securities held within an estate.

Our Services

Probate Valuations

With access to advanced research platforms, we prepare detailed probate valuations of domestic & international securities. Our valuations report all relevant corporate actions & dividends and verify the holdings in each security as at the required date.

Formal Notation of Death

We manage all aspects of the notation of death on securities working with Irish, UK and overseas company registrars.

Transfer and Sale of Securities

Our team offers a choice of services for the distribution of securities from the estate: We arrange for the transfer of securities to the appropriate beneficiaries. With access to international markets, we collaborate with our Trading Desk to provide a platform for our clients to sell securities on behalf of the estate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Probate Valuations:
If the securities held by the Estate have not yet been valued, our team can provide this service. This valuation is essential for the executor or solicitor to apply for a Grant of Probate.

Formal Notation of Death:
For securities held outside of Davy accounts, we can manage the Formal Notation of Death process with share registrars on your behalf.

Estate Account:
We are here to assist you with the administration of the Estate whether you have an existing account with Davy or are seeking to open an account.

Please forward a copy of the death certificate, with documentary evidence of the securities to probate@davy.ie.

 Examples of documentary evidence include: share certificates, dividend counterfoils or statements of holding (where the Shareholder Reference Number is visible).

The Probate Services team may act on your behalf by contacting the various registrars.

While requirements across different Share Registrars vary, we request that you provide:

  1. The name of the securities
  2. The copies of valid share certificates/statements of holding
  3. The total number of shares in each holding

Email probate@davy.ie with the above and we will advise you further.

We ask that you:

  1. Complete a Davy Estate Account Application form.
  2. Provide a Solicitor’s/ Estate bank account statement (full page, transactions may be redacted)
  3. Include an Original, Court-sealed copy (or Solicitor certified copy) of the Grant of Probate
  4. Please refer to page 5 of the Davy Estate Account Application form for details of the Identification Requirements.

Please provide us with:

  1. Certified copy of the Death Certificate
  2. Certified copy of extract of the Will naming the Executor(s)
  3. One certified copy photo ID, passport or drivers licence, for the Executor(s)
  4. A Letter of Authority signed by the Executors, if appointing a solicitor’s firm to act on behalf of the Estate.

Shares held by an Estate may only be sold through an Estate Account. Please contact probate@davy.ie for more information.

Sales proceeds will be credited to:

  1. An Estate bank account set up for the purpose of administering an Estate or,
  2. A nominated solicitor’s client account

Noting of death and transfer of certificated shareholding

€240.00 + VAT per line of stock £210.00 + VAT per line of stock

Note: VAT will be charged at the rate in force when the fee falls due.

Please note that the provision of probate valuations and the formal notation of death does not require licensing, authorisation or registration with the Central Bank of Ireland, and as a result, it is not covered by the Central Bank of Ireland’s requirements designed to protect consumers or by a statutory compensation scheme.
