Equity indices fell back on Tuesday, with sentiment hurt by inconclusive talks between President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on raising the US debt ceiling. Negotiations will continue this week as Biden attends G7 meetings in Japan, with congressional leaders set to reconvene early next week. Meanwhile, US retail sales and manufacturing data and euro area GDP and employment releases showed economic activity on both sides of the Atlantic holding up better than expected.
