A breakthrough in EU/UK negotiations on the Northern Ireland Protocol appears to have been found, with the UK agreeing to share real-time customs data and with anonymous officials reported to expect that a final deal may be hammered out in the coming weeks. However, securing support from the Democratic Unionist Party and hard-line Conservative MPs could be difficult. Still, any deal will eliminate the threat that the entire EU/UK Brexit trade deal could unravel due to the unresolved Protocol issue.
