As expected, no change to Central Bank mortgage lending rules

DAVY VIEW

As expected, the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) kept its mortgage lending rules unchanged yesterday (December 4th) following its annual review. However, as in 2018, we do not expect the rules to impede a brisk expansion of the mortgage market. Mortgage lending in the first three quarters was €6.7bn, up 11% on 2018. There was no change to banks’ required capital buffers, but the CBI is expected to introduce a systemic risk buffer once legislation is in place.
