Against the backdrop of the divergent performance and outlook of the Irish and UK economies, active portfolio management to reduce exposures to subscale and the most economically sensitive portfolios should be welcomed. Bank of Ireland’s (BOI) UK exposures have reduced in years across both lending and deposits as it sought to manage value over volume. Nonetheless, the UK will continue to be BOI’s second market and the UK Post Office will likely play an important part over the medium term.
