British Retail Consortium data show weak spending in February


This morning’s British Retail Consortium (BRC) data show retail sales up 0.6% on the year, mainly reflecting higher prices, with non-food sales down 1.1%. This follows downbeat GfK and Markit surveys on UK consumer sentiment. Squeezed finances, high CPI inflation and the uncertainties from Brexit are still hurting UK consumer spending.
