Irish retail sales up 7% in December

Today’s retail sales showed a marginal 0.1% monthly decline, largely reflecting the timing of ‘Black Friday’ sales, with volumes up an enormous 7.2% on the year. The biggest gains are being made by big-ticket items such as durable goods, helped by rising housing transactions. Looking ahead to 2018, we expect that retail sales will see another strong rise exceeding 5%.
