On January 26th, the Q4 GDP number revealed a slighter better quarter than expected, with growth at 0.5%. For the calendar year, GDP growth was 1.8%, slightly weaker than 1.9% growth in 2016. While sub-par compared with the Eurozone and USA, growth has remained resilient in 2017. Looking ahead, we expect a further slowdown in growth in 2018 as business investment and consumer spending weakens, despite the strong cyclical upswing now evident across the UK’s major trading partners.
