As per the capital markets, observers of the UK housing market are confused. May 2022 produced another drop in the sentiment-led Twindig index (down 3.4%), triggered by rising mortgage rates and falling mortgage approvals and transactions. May spells the end of the pandemic highs, but it is too soon to say if we fall below historic norms. We see two competing forces at play – the ‘race for space’ versus the cost-of-living crisis.
