Wage inflation remains modest despite tightening labour market

Today’s CSO data show that average weekly earnings were up 1.7% in the year to Q3. Despite the rapid fall in unemployment, wage pressures remain modest in the Irish economy – indicative of the slack still remaining in the labour market. Nonetheless, there are pockets of stronger growth – public sector wages are now growing at 2.7% and parts of the private sector are growing at 4-6%.
