Homebuilding holding up better than expected so far

A plethora of Irish housing market data released in recent days suggest activity has been more resilient than expected. Housing completions in Q3 2022 were 7,544, up 62% on the year and pushing the annual total to 27,800. Despite higher input prices and viability concerns, housing starts in Q3 equalled 6,770 or 27,417 in the 12 months to September. Finally, we estimate residential transactions in Q3 were €6.8bn, or 16,600 transactions in volume terms, up 8% on the same period in 2022.
