Irish housing starts rise close to 30,000 units in August

Our analysis of the Property Price Register shows residential transactions in Q3 returning close to pre-pandemic levels but with clear evidence that the lack of housing supply is holding back activity. Close to 25% of mortgage approvals are now failing to translate into drawdowns. Thankfully, the latest housing starts data point to supply finally beginning to respond – rising to 29,565 units in the year to August – with potential upside for mortgage lending.
