The Central Bank of Ireland’s (CBI) review of the mortgage macroprudential rules was announced last year and will begin shortly. The CBI previously assessed that without these rules, house price inflation would be significantly higher. The CBI is also reviewing the overall framework for macroprudential capital – this points to higher releasable capital buffers going forward over more permanent buffers. Elsewhere, closing applications to exemptions has become a regular feature of the market as banks seek to manage the pipeline within the rules.
