The key takeaways from the Q1 release include (1) the strong rebound in UK winter plantings following more normalised weather conditions and (2) the expectation for year-on-year profit growth. In the seasonally quiet first half, trading through Q1 was slow – reflecting the delayed UK harvest (which lowered the oil seed rape area) and dry weather conditions in Europe. Despite the slow start to the year, on-farm sentiment and crop output prices remain strong and we do not anticipate any changes to our forecasts.
