Global equity markets tumble on COVID-19 fears

The MSCI AC World index fell 2.6% in October following a 2.9% decline the previous month. The benchmark is now down 2.7% year-to-date (ytd) and ahead by 2.5% over 12 months. Emerging markets bucked the trend, rising 1.4% on the month (+2.3% ytd), with the BRIC component gaining 3.5% (+8.8% ytd). Markets were impacted by surging coronavirus cases and the threat of further lockdown restrictions worldwide.
