MSCI AC World index falls 2.2% in August; trade concerns to the fore

The MSCI AC World Index fell 2.2% in August, with the loss reducing the year-to-date (ytd) gain to 12.9%. It was the second monthly loss in 2019 for the index (it fell 6.1% in May), and once again concerns over the escalation of the on-going trade war between the US and China was the primary catalyst. Emerging markets continued to struggle, falling 2.7% (+4.2% ytd) against a 2.1% decline (+14.1% ytd) for developed markets.
