easyJet’s H1 results statement reflects a difficult trading backdrop so far this year and, in that respect, it resonates the commentary from travel sector peers this week. To easyJet’s credit, while the revenue per seat outlook has deteriorated slightly for summer, the company now believes it can improve the ex-fuel cost base – which would make it the second time to do so in eight years. In addition, with the September quarter only 34% booked, there is still a lot to play for in the current year.
