Public finances on target ahead of October Budget

Exchequer returns for August show that the deficit related to the general government was €423m better than expected in the year to August. Spending discipline has been broadly maintained but tax revenues were slightly below target, albeit still up 4% on the year. Overall, the government is well on track to hit its full-year deficit reduction target with Budget 2018 looming (October 10th).
