GDP grew by 5.2% in 2016, ahead of expectations

Today’s Irish GDP data show that the economy grew by 5.2% in calendar year 2016. Given that the out-turn is a little stronger than the 4.8% we had expected, we will probably have to revise up our 2017 forecast from 3.7% currently to above 4%. GDP growth in 2016 was driven by consumer spending, investment (particularly in construction) but with exports lagging behind.
