Majority of US restaurant operators expect continuing volume sales growth
01 June 2012
John O'Reilly
FACTS: Eleventh consecutive month of year-on-year (yoy) growth in US restaurant sector.
ANALYSIS: While a little weaker than in March, same-store volume sales growth in the US restaurant sector still grew yoy for the eleventh consecutive month, according to the US National Restaurant Association (NRA). The majority of industry operators expect growth to continue over the next six months. In April, 57% of restaurant operators reported a rise in same-store sales. As regards expectations, a majority (52%) of restaurant operators expect sales to be higher over the coming six months; this is the fifth consecutive month of such positive expectations.
DAVY VIEW: While positive overall, the data indicate that a significant minority of operators are not recording growth. Insofar as one can infer it from other sources, the QSR sector is in positive growth. This is an important sector for ARYZTA , which will issue a Q3 sales update on May 5th, and Kerry Group.
